Rebecca Backfisch

Hello!  I want to take a moment to let you know a little about me.   I've been a Brookwood Bronco for quite a while -- 19 years (!) -- and have loved every minute of being a part of this great community and sharing my love of math with young Broncos.  I grew up in the Atlanta area (in what is now Brookhaven) and was first nurtured in my love of both math and music in DeKalb County Schools.  From there, it was on to UGA, followed by GSU -- public education in Georgia is a beautiful thing!   I earned a B.S. in Mathematics from GSU in 1995,  a M.A. degree in Teaching and Learning from Piedmont University in 2002 and an Ed.S in Mathematics Instruction from GSU in 2010.  {I'm not sure when and if I'll be crazy enough to go for that PhD.!}  I have lived in Lilburn for 20 years.  My son graduated from Parkview HS and my daughter is current a junior at Brookwood.   I've loved teaching at Brookwood and have taught mainly Geometry, Algebra II and PreCalc/Trig at the CP, Honors/Accel and Gifted levels (I won't get into specific course names, given that they change every few years!).  I've always thought that I would know it was time to pursue another career when and if I stopped loving sharing math with teenagers.....but that moment has yet to come, so I'm thrilled to be right where I am!  Feel free to email me with any questions or comments:   rebecca_backfisch@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
