As a library media specialist, I am excited that students are exploring new literacy skills that are broader - image, video and digital awareness. These skills connect 21st century learners with a complex variety of literacy knowledges. These knowledges affect how we teach and embrace research, digital citizenship, reading, and inquiry with students in the Brookwood Learning Commons.
We promote an engaging and collaborative environment with rigor and high academic expectations when students enter our space. We support student learning by developing authentic relationships with faculty, staff, and students. Our students are digital natives who have a broad repertoire of practices of decoding, meaning making, producing and demonstrating critical understandings. We extend those skills when students visit us!
A native of Savannah, I graduated from the University of West Georgia with a BA in English. I have an MEd in Media and Instructional Technology from the University of West Georgia and a PhD in Language and Literacy Education from the University of Georgia. I am married and my two children, Elise and Joshua, both attended BHS. I love music (and attending concerts), architecture, and of course, reading. I look forward to working with each student this school year!
